the -cypher commandline option doesn't work for new syntax

when using the cypher option on the commandline, the cypher engine doesn't detect some of the "newer" syntax, which ends up breaking the build. certain lines in component diagrams like "package my_package as mp" don't get cyphered, but their use will. also skinparam groups with the "<<myskin>>" don't get scrambled either.

ports are still pretty buggy.

The Gap - a freespace bug after extentending nodes in nwdiag

There is like,a gap between dev3 and DPx. Or maybe its a variation where gap is between web3 and PPx. Anyway I believe its a bug. I know the nwdiag is an [Amazing and totally not bugged out diagramm code] yet still I want to at least know how to workaround with this.

Rendering error on Mac (M2) - externally imported library

Error, inside IntellJ. Local rendering. Switching to remote rendering works fine. Code below. Also works on collegues computer. Embedded dot generates broken svg

What I do :

The following source test.puml :

Rendered, under windows with he command :

javaw -jar plantuml.jar -charset UTF-8 -tsvg test.puml

Notepad++ indicates my file is encoded in utf8.

What happen :

the generated svg is broken : the first line in the svg is not compliant with xml, it looks like a dot error message :
"Warning: Invalid 3-byte UTF8 found in input of graph dfd - treated as Latin-1. Perhaps "-Gcharset=latin1" is needed?"

Yet, after removing this line, the svg is correct, the content is also correct : the "é" is here.

Result is the same with png format.

Using :

dot is the dot embedded in plantuml version plantuml-1.2025.10 on Windows 11.

Further test :

I run similar test with a later dot version using

$env:GRAPHVIZ_DOT="C:\Dev\Outils\Graphviz\bin\dot.exe"

javaw -jar plantuml.jar -charset UTF-8 -tsvg test.puml

with the same result.

What I expect :

I think that if there is an error, no output should be generated at all, at least not an invalid output (a valid svg with the error message)

I think all the input is UTF8, so I think that there should be no error at all.

Strange behaviour in percentage of completion of Gantt diagram

Hello, PlantUMLers!

Playing with a Gantt diagram, I discovered that this (minimal working example) code

As you can see, the % of completion (wrongly) appears at the beginning of each segment, with exception of the first and last one.

If I remove "RoundCorner 1" or set it to 0, it works well:

And even stranger... If I keep "RoundCorner 1" but remove "Project starts 2025-10-06", it also works well!

I think this is a bug but in case it is not, is there something I am doing wrong?

Well, what do you copy and where exactly? How big is the diagram text? Have you tried the command-line version plantuml.jar?

Answered: Version 1.2025.5 on Windows gives error "java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: Compression not supported."

On certain JVMs (notably on Windows Server 2022 runners), the call to configure compression mode and quality could throw an exception, which caused the crash you observed.

This was fixed in https://github.com/plantuml/plantuml/commit/d3fdcbd5a2fc575375c1d687806bed61f4c25355 by wrapping the compression configuration in a try/catch block.

This change ensures that if the JVM or image writer does not support explicit compression settings, PlantUML logs a warning instead of failing.
That explains why the problem disappears in 1.2025.8 and also why it only affected specific environments.

Using a try/catch around the compression settings isn't a great solution, but it works in practice.

In fact, it is not due to 'separator' because without it is a Class diagram (not a Sequence diagram!):

Then the issue is due to the Sequence Diagram message constraint and length limit (currently max size is 2000).

JSON block fails in VSCode extension preview

saturday are colored in LightGrey

sunday are colored in LightGrey

But if that weekend day is a holiday (e.g. pentecost 2025 in Germany), I want to overpaint it

2025-06-08 to 2025-06-09 are colored Lavender
