I tried to make an activity diagram in Confluence. Whenever I'm using a german umlaut (ä,ü,ö) in an activity the image cannot be rendered. Is there a workaround?

Rendering of german umlauts is working in Netbeans 8.0.2 PlantUML plugin with current graphviz on (Arch-)Linux, but it shows "broken" charakters (e.G. ü) in the same plugin on Windows 7. I've tried with several encodings (utf-8 with and w/o BOM, iso-8859-1, Windows-1252)

I guess that this is a Netbeans PlantUML plugin issue, and not a PlantUML issue.
So you should report the issue on their JIRA:

Hello,

I think the issue comes from your installation. German umlaut is working with PlantUML : example http://www.plantuml.com/plantuml/img/qz3ILD3LjLDGIayjoatCKoZDpKaiBL7GEBn4v_0UdSFRD9K0

You should put your issue here :

https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/de.griffel.confluence.plugins.plant-uml/version/2017/support

But since the team that support this plugin is partially german, umlaut should work.
