Many times it is desired to mark what happens in various signals at certain point. If timing diagram would allow to draw dashed vertical line at that point, it would be easy to see what happened at that specific time in each signal.
In case one of the signals is clock signal, marking each rising edge of clock is common practice to see what is sampled at each clock.
