Is it possible to make multiple columns for activity diagrams?

Something like invisible swimelanes or invisible split?

I would like to be able to create two states side by side (like passive and activate in the following image).

The same effect could also be accomplished by using columns

one could write the column on the left, and a keyword like nextColumn and the following diagram would be placed on the right in a separate column...
